“Assembly is cancelled”. The three words which make teachers' hearts sink.

You’ve packed up your lesson and the children have put away their books and equipment and you now have half an hour of teaching time you somehow need to fill. Your class are waiting for you to tell them what’s next.

Enter: DB Primary!

Here are some practical ideas of how you can use DB Primary for any learning time you need to unexpectedly fill:

Maths and English live games

Log in with your own details. Navigate to the Learning Library and from the Library tab along the top, select ‘Games’.

You can then choose one of the interactive games to play and invite individual children up to play it on the interactive whiteboard.

Speedy Words: Missing Words is best suited to KS1 and Speedy Words: Missing Letters Pro is best suited to KS2.

Speedy Maths: Starter Addition is best suited to KS1 and Speedy Maths: Division Challenge is best suited to KS2.

If you are lucky enough to have access to tablets or laptops, then the children could log in with their own DB Primary details and play against each other.

Online Safety

You could use this unexpected learning time for a short e-safety session.

Log in with your own details. Navigate to the Learning Library and click the ‘View E-Safety resources’ button.

This will then bring up all the activities and guidance for the available e-safety resources on DB Primary. Use the filter down the left-hand side to help you find an activity which is appropriate for your year group. These activities can be viewed together as a whole class and can raise some important points for discussion around e-safety. Many of the activities have a quiz on the final slide which the children can complete together.

There are also crosswords and quizzes which cover password safety, cyberbullying, chatroom safety and respect.

You’ll also find guidance resources which can be used in conjunction with the activities and may help with some ideas for discussion points.

Topics

The Learning Library also offers lots of activities and resources for current topics and events, allowing you to create a mini assembly within your classroom with minimal planning.

current topics

The topics library can be accessed by entering the Learning Library and from the Library tab along the top, selecting ‘Topics’. You will then be shown all activities for upcoming events and below that you will be able to see more topics you can choose from.

Again, many of the activities have quizzes to accompany them to test the children’s knowledge.
