Welcome to St Benedict's Early Years Foundation Stage
EYFS – what is our vision?
Our EYFS vision: (created based on our school values and EYFS standards.)
1.Every child is capable and powerful from birth as part of their learning, whatever their starting point.
2. Staff are more than supervisors, they use a play based learning approach where they use high quality interactions to drive learning forward.
3. We set high expectations for every child, ensuring strong foundations in language, early reading (through high-quality phonics), mathematics and wider developmental skills, preparing all pupils for success in Year 1 and beyond.
4. We provide a vibrant, engaging curriculum based on the Early Years Framework, where children learn through play, hands-on experiences, curiosity and imagination indoors and outdoors.
5. We celebrate each child as an individual, meeting diverse needs through dedicated practitioners who champion independence, resilience, friendship and a lifelong love of learning, reading and writing.

At St Benedict's Catholic Primary School, we are very proud of the environment and the experience that we offer to children aged from 3 to 5 years. As a Catholic School, we believe in the teachings of Christ in all we do. Our motto is, ‘In the light of Jesus, we learn to shine’.
Our practitioners, teachers and support staff, are constantly developing their skills within the curriculum for our ‘Nursery’ and ‘Reception’ children. This is called the Early Years Framework. We aim to get children ready for Year 1, when they will follow the National Curriculum.
Academic achievement includes a child’s ability to read and write as well as mathematical skills. We set high standards, so that every child has the best chance to succeed in life. However, we build this philosophy around fun, cooperation, friendship and exploration – so that every child excels in our EYFS setting.
Our environment is fun and vibrant – with our outdoors areas providing lots of learning opportunities by taking advantage of our extensive grounds.
Our wider curriculum is published on our web site and we follow the Developmental Matters framework to give every child a broad based learning experience. We learn through play as well as more ‘traditional’ ways.
Phonics is the earliest part of learning to read. We begin early, nursery if your child is ready, and we believe that a love of books leads to a lifelong love of reading.
Our staff believe in a fully inclusive environment, and we see every child as individual and unique – we all learn in different ways.
If you would like to visit our setting, please contact the school office or ask to speak to our Headteacher, Mr Forde.
