Prayers and Thoughts for the Week ahead

Week Commencing 27th June 2022

Thought for the Week Ahead - Almost every successful person begins with two beliefs: the future can be better than the present, and I have the power to make it so.  (unknown)

Prayer for the Week Ahead - Dear Lord.  Bless the week ahead. May its challenges not overwhelm us or its circumstances discourage us.  In all things, may we remember you are with us in our journey, your love our fuel, your word our guide, today and always. Amen

Week Commencing 20th June 2022

Thought for the Week Ahead (linked to Collective Worship theme 'Beauty') - The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched—they must be felt with the heart. Hellen Keller (American Author)

Prayer for the Week Ahead (linked to our Collective Worship theme 'Beauty') - Dear Jesus, Help us to the see the beauty inside someone else rather than simply judging others on how they look or what they wear. Amen

For the Whit Holiday - May/June 2022

Thought for the Whit holiday - What fills the heart with joy is the Holy Spirit.  Joy is not living while constantly laughing.  No, it is not that.  Joy is not being funny.  No, it is not that either.  It is something else.  Christian joy is peace, a peace that is harbored in our roots.  It is peace of the heart, a peace that only God can give us.  This is Christian joy.  It is not easy to safeguard this joy. (Pope Francis, Santa Marta, 28 May 2018)

Prayer for the Whit holiday - Dear Jesus, Help us to offer our forgiveness to those who are mean to us.  By doing this we hope to help show them that the world can be a better place. Amen.

Week Commencing 16th May 2022

Thought for the Week Ahead -HOLY SPIRIT -  The Holy Spirit helps us view others with fresh eyes, seeing them always as brothers and sisters in Jesus, to be respected and loved.  Pope Francis.

Prayer for the Week AheadHoly Spirit, Give our Year 6 the strength of the Holy Spirit to try new things when they are away this week at CMC Pensarn.  Look after our Year 6 class and staff whilst they are away on their residential trip.  Keep them safe.  Amen

Thought for the Week Ahead - LOVE IS PATIENT. Patience is a quality which makes one act not on impulse, and avoids giving offense. Love leads one to compassionately accept the other person, even when he or she acts differently than I would like, and has the right to live in this world just as they are.  Pope Francis.

Prayer for the Week Ahead - Dear Jesus, Please help me to sing with faith, to carry the truth close in my heart always, to rejoice at new life and to show love to all I meet. Amen

Week Commencing 2nd May 2022

Collective Worship Theme - Truth

Thought for the Week - "Loving the truth means not only affirming it, but rather living it, bearing witness to it in your work. … The issue is not that of being or not being a believer. The issue here is being or not being honest with yourself and with others. … In life nothing is black or white. In journalism too, it is necessary to know how to discern between the shades of grey in the events you are called upon to narrate. Political debates, and even many conflicts, are rarely the outcome of distinct and clear dynamics, in which it is possible to recognise precisely and unequivocally who is wrong and who is right. Comparison and conflict are indeed born of this difficulty of synthesis between different positions. And this is the difficult and at the same time necessary job — we might say even the mission – of the journalist: to arrive as close as possible to the truth of facts and never to say or write something that we know, in our conscience, to be untrue.".  Pope Francis when he addressed Journalists in 2016

Prayer for the Week Ahead Dear Jesus, Help us to follow your example and always tell the truth even when it can be difficult. Amen

Week Commencing 25th April 2022

Prayer for Easter - Lord we lift our hearts to you. As the dawn breaks on Easter Sunday, may we carry the unity we share into every moment knowing that we are one with the risen Christ.  As the dew air falls, may we breathe the morning in and know that like the earth, you sustain us, keep us and work within us always. May we ever live to praise you! Amen.

Week Commencing 4th April 2022

Thought for the Week Ahead - "In our Lenten journey towards Easter, let us remember the One who “humbled himself and became obedient unto death, even death on a cross” (Phil 2:8). Thought for the Week Ahead (Ukraine) - All this is inhumane, indeed it is also sacrilegious because it goes against the sacredness of human life. Prayer for the Week Ahead - Dear Jesus, Please comfort the people of Ukraine and keep them safe.  Help and protect the people in Russia who are protesting against the war.  Bring your peace, love and understanding into the rooms where decisions are being made.  Jesus, please be merciful to the world.  Shine your light of love and hope.  Help us to seek peace and bring an end to war.  Amen.

We pray for world leaders, for compassion, strength and wisdom to guide their choices. Thought for the Week Ahead  Pope Francis talking about the environment - “In this system, which tends to devour everything which stands in the way of increased profits, whatever is fragile, like the environment, is defenceless before the interests of a deified market, which become the only rule.”

Prayer for the Week Ahead (linked to the environment) – Heavenly Father, You have taught us, through your servant St Francis, that all creation is your handiwork. Grant us your grace that we may exercise wise stewardship of this Earth; tread lightly upon it; and cherish its resources; that our children may enjoy its riches, throughout all generations, and your name be glorified through all that you have made. Amen.

Thought for the Week Ahead Pope Francis talking about COP26 - “We can confront these crises by retreating into isolationism, protectionism and exploitation. Thought for the Week Ahead - When Jesus stepped into the waters of the Jordan and was baptized by John the Baptist, he did so not because he was in need of repentance, or conversion: he did it to be among people who need forgiveness, among us sinners, and to take upon himself the burden of our sins. – Pope Francis
