Prayers and Thoughts for the Week ahead

Week Commencing - 17th January

Thought for the Week Ahead - It is not enough to say we are Christians. We must live the faith, not only with our words, but with our actions. Pope Francis

Prayer for the Week AheadDear God, Please help us when times are difficult and we feel like a storm is going on inside us. Help us to be brave and to talk to someone who can help us. Amen

Thought for the Week Ahead (linked to Collective Worship theme of Choices) - Choose to make a difference instead of choosing to be indifferent today. Unknown

Prayer for the Week Ahead (linked to Choices) – Dear Lord,Thank you for loving us and helping us to make our own good choices. Help us to remember that our choices have consequences. Please help us when we have difficult choices to make, especially decisions that are helpful to us and to others.  Amen

Christmas Holidays

Thought for the Holiday  From Pope Francis - Dear friends, this is Christmas; don’t let it be polluted by consumerism and indifference. The tree and the Nativity scene introduce us to that atmosphere that is typical of Christmas and is part of the patrimony of our communities: an atmosphere of tenderness, sharing and familiar intimacy.

Prayer for the Christmas Holiday  Holy Jesus,  by being born one of us and lying humbly in a manger, you show how much God loves the world.  Let the light of your love always shine in our hearts, until we reach our home in heaven, and see you on your throne of glory.  Amen.

Week Commencing - 13th December

Thought for the Week Ahead (linked to Collective Worship theme of Joy) - If you are joyful, do not worry about lukewarmness. Joy will shine in your eyes and in your look, in your conversation and in your countenance. You will not be able to hide it because joy overflows. Mother Teresa

Prayer for the Week Ahead (linked to Advent) – Christ, come into our world of darkness.  Light up our lives with your coming. Fulfil all our longings with the joy of your birth. Strengthen our resolve to work for change in our world.  And to share the hope of your birth that each Advent brings. Amen.   Sr Bridgetta Rooney/CAFOD

Week Commencing - 29th November

Thought for the Week Ahead - The Lord is coming, always coming. When you have ears to hear and eyes to see, you will recognise him at any moment of your life. Life is Advent; life is recognizing the coming of the Lord. Henri Nouwen, Catholic Priest and Writer

Prayer for the Week Ahead (linked to the Collective Worship theme of Hope at the start of Advent) – Father, Thank you that in a world of despair, You are our Hope. In a world of darkness, You are our Light. In a world of sorrow, You are our joy. Amen.

Week Commencing - 22nd November

Thought for the Week Ahead Tenderness and kindness are not signs of weakness or despair, but manifestations of strength and resolutions.  Unknown

Prayer for the Week Ahead (linked to the Collective Worship theme of Unity) – We pray for the teachers that they have wisdom. We pray for the children that they show kindness. We pray for all the staff that they have patience. We pray for the parents that they continue to support and guide their children. Lord, educating the next generation is so valuable and we want to be faithful with this responsibility. O Lord, bring unity to all we do. Amen.

Week Commencing - 15th November

Thought for the Week Ahead  Pope Francis talking about the environment - “In this system, which tends to devour everything which stands in the way of increased profits, whatever is fragile, like the environment, is defenceless before the interests of a deified market, which become the only rule.”

Prayer for the Week Ahead (linked to the environment) – Heavenly Father, You have taught us, through your servant St Francis, that all creation is your handiwork. Grant us your grace that we may exercise wise stewardship of this Earth; tread lightly upon it; and cherish its resources; that our children may enjoy its riches, throughout all generations, and your name be glorified through all that you have made. Amen.

Week Commencing - 8th November

Thought for the Week Ahead Pope Francis talking about COP26 - “We can confront these crises by retreating into isolationism, protectionism and exploitation. Or we can see in them a real chance for change, a genuine moment of conversion, and not simply in a spiritual sense.”  Let’s hope that world leaders do use it as a real chance for change, a genuine moment of conversion.

Prayer for the Week Ahead (linked to this week’s Collective Worship Theme of Saints) – Ever-living God.  We remember those whom, you have gathered from the storm of war into the peace of your presence; may that same peace calm our fears, bring justice to all peoples and establish harmony among the nations, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

Week Commencing - 1st November

Thought for the Week Ahead Life is a journey. When we stop, things don't go right. Pope Francis

Prayer for the Week Ahead (linked to this week’s Collective Worship Theme of Saints) – Prayer of Saint Benedict.  We pray, Lord, that everything we do may be prompted by your inspiration, so that every prayer and work of ours may begin from you and be brought by you to completion. Amen

Week Commencing - 18th October

Thought for the Week Ahead If you judge people, you have no time to love them. Mother Teresa

Prayer for the Week Ahead (linked to this week’s Collective Worship Theme of Courage) – Dear Father, I ask You to give me strength to pursue that which is just and right in life and not what is easy or popular. Help me to do the right thing without expecting any kind of gratitude or reward. Amen

Thought for the Week Ahead  Having faith does not mean having no difficulties, but having the strength to face them, knowing we are not alone. Pope Francis

Prayer for the Week Ahead (linked to Collective Worship Theme of Light) – Our School’s Mission Statement is ‘In the light of Jesus, we learn to shine’.  Dear Jesus, help us to accept and use your light to guide us in your ways. Amen

Thought for the Week Ahead - It is not enough to say we are Christians. We must live the faith, not only with our words, but with our actions.  Pope Francis

Prayer for the Week Ahead - So many shades of gold. Autumn. Another miracle we take for granted. Another expression of the artist's vision. The blending of the autumn hues with the setting sun. Warm. Comforting. Perfect. Thank you for autumn, Lord.  Amen

Week Commencing - 27th September

Our Collective Worship theme for this week is Water

Thought for the Week Ahead - When Jesus stepped into the waters of the Jordan and was baptized by John the Baptist, he did so not because he was in need of repentance, or conversion: he did it to be among people who need forgiveness, among us sinners, and to take upon himself the burden of our sins. – Pope Francis

Prayer for the Week Ahead - God of rain and river, of stream and storm, of sea and silent pools, of waterfall and waterhole, of wells and waves. Hear us as we pray for water fresh and pure for all. And guide us to use your water wisely and well, ensuring that all your creation can share in your bounty. Amen

Week Commencing - 20th September

Our Collective Worship theme for this week is Rules

Thought for the Week Ahead - I prefer a church which is bruised, hurting and dirty because it has been out on the streets, rather than a church which is unhealthy from being confined and from clinging to its own security. – Pope Francis

Prayer for the Week Ahead - We stand together.  We pray for all who are suffering and bereaved. At this time of sorrow, incomprehension and tragedy, we stand together.  In this crisis, we pray for God’s mercy and healing for the sick and for health and strength for all who care for them. Amen

Prayer: Adapted from a message from Sister Bridget Tighe of Caritas Jerusalem

us. – Pope Francis - 8th September 2021

Prayer for the Week Ahead - Father, Thank you for being beside me. Thank you for this new school. Please be

there to hold my hand.  Please help me to relax and enjoy the day. Amen
